Learning support

We monitor each student's progress and provide additional learning support if this is required.

Our school uses learning programs and specialised staff where needed and we work in partnership with parents and carers to assist students who have special learning needs.

Our school is committed to working with Aboriginal parents and community members in developing personalised plans for our Aboriginal students.

At Revesby South we aim to develop the English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) and the Learning Support students' competence in the key learning areas and improve their learning outcomes throughout the curriculum to a level where they can fully participate in schooling and independently pursue further education and training. The level of support received may take place in the classroom in collaboration with the classroom teacher, in a small withdrawn tutorial group or on an individual basis—dependent on the needs of the students involved.

Newly arrived students from other countries with little or no English are supported with programs to develop their conversational English, and reading and writing skills, so they can progress through the 3 learning phases at Primary School level. Older students who arrive at school are considered for placement in one of the Intensive English Centres, where they will be prepared for the demands of high school in smaller classes, with huge emphasis on becoming proficient in English across the curriculum.

The Learning Support Team at Revesby South consists of the School  Principal, Counsellor, Learning and Support teacher(LAST) ,  and  another staff member. The team identifies, and brings together  key personnel within the school and the community to assist in the delivery of a suitable program to address specific needs of the students in curriculum access, communication, social skills, personal care and safety and mobility.

The Learning and Support Team (LAST) coordinates the support and resources required to meet the needs of the children experiencing difficulties in learning. Through collaborative planning and programming the LST ensures that effective implementation strategies are in place and appropriate, available resources are being utilised with  appropriate monitoring  and assessment strategies in place.
